Stepping Out

Inner Beauty

Most feel that a dandelion is an ugly weed but a peek inside shows something quite different.

Red Eyed Tree Frog (captive)

Red eyed Tree Frogs are perhaps the most iconic of all the tree frogs of Costa Rica. They sleep all day under leaves and come out at night. Their big orange feet and huge red eyes may serve as warning signals to predators that they are not safe to eat

Green -Crowned Brilliant Hummingbird

A Green-Crowned Brilliant Hummingbird from Costa Rica. Taken with the excellent set up and help of Greg Basco from Foto Verde Tours.

"Puhlese Dahling, No more pictures"

Red eyed Tree Frogs are perhaps the most iconic of all the tree frogs of Costa Rica. They sleep all day under leaves and come out at night. Their big orange feet and huge red eyes may serve as warning signals to predators that they are not safe to eat (captive)

Catárata Del Toro

This incredibly beautiful waterfall cascades down 300ft into an extinct volcano. The hike down isn't too bad, maybe 375 steps, but the hike up sure got my heart rate moving. This shot was taken from an overlook on the way back up, just as the clouds broke and the light illuminated the walls and the crater.

Blue Jeans Poison Dart Frog

This tiny frog is also known as the strawberry poison arrow frog. The adults are between 2 and 2.5 cm long (3/4-1 inch). The males are very territorial and patrol it defending it from other mating or calling males, non-breeding males, and of course females, are allowed in. The fights between males can last up to 20 minutes with the males standing on their back legs and wrestling chest to chest. The loser is not killed but retreats from the victors territory.

Female Green-crowned Brilliant Hummingbird

The Green-crowned Brilliant inhabits mountainous country from Costa Rica to Ecador. Unlike most other hummingbirds the Green-crowned Brilliant often perches to feed. Taken at a setup with the amazing help of Greg Basco

Crimson Patch Butterfly

At our hotel in San Jose a beautiful Crimson Patch Butterfly alit for a few seconds on this pretty flower which I think is a type of Gerba Daisy

Artic Foxes in Winter

Pair of Artic Foxes in winter coats.

Cold and lonely tree National Bison Range Montana

It was a cold and snowy week, had a little bit where the clouds were clearing over the Mission Mountains while we finishing up our drive around the Nine Pipes Wildlife Refuge.. There was still remnants of the frozen fog along the foothills of the mountains

Vesterhorn Meteor and a bit of an Aurora

It was cold and windy but we waited for a while and were rewarded with a bit of an aurora glow, and in one frame I was lucky enough to catch a meteor streaking through as well.

Howling.

Coyote howling, Triple D.

Inside the ice cave 1

A hole to the sky inside the ice cave. The entrance was over to the left.

Ice waterfall

The ice cave walls were so intricate and detailed. This one reminded me of a waterfall, the black "falling" is volcanic ash.

Skógafoss Waterfall

The waterfall at Skógafoss. It is one of the highest waterfalls in Iceland and not only is it close to Reykjavik, it is very accessible via the ring road. This means it is almost always packed with people, even on cloudy overcast days like this one was. I got lucky and had a 30 second window with no one in my frame.

Sea Stacks at the Black Beach

Long exposure of the sea stacks at the Black Beach in Vik, on Iceland's south coast.

Driving from Jackson, WY to Salt Lake City to fly home we came across these horses in a field, when they saw us stop they all came rushing towards us.
